How they met
The couple met when swiping right on each other on Bumble, and the match was made forever!
Wedding Day Design and Theme Inspiration
Planning their special day in October, the couple was inspired by fall themes and colors which can be seen in their florals. They also tried to keep simplicity in mind and incorporate their personal favorites, as well as cultural designs and elements.
Choosing The Special Venue And Vendors
Jalen is from the Texas Hill Country and wanted a venue that resembled home for her.
“The changing leaves and weather during the fall in the Hill Country are breathtaking. When we found Mae’s Ridge I just knew it was the one. We had our ceremony outside under big oak trees and our reception was held in their big, white, modern barn. Mae’s Ridge gives so much attention to detail from the bubble ball light fixtures, indoor glass garage door bar, to the tile in their bathrooms is just unspeakable, lol. Because I wanted a minimalist vibe I knew we wouldnt have to do much to make this place spectacular.” – Jalen
She mentions that their vendors were small, local businesses or family friends. They say this helped keep their day intentional and special.
The Most Unique Elements Of Their Wedding
“Because it was so close to Día De Los Muertos and having close loved ones pass, we had an ofrenda table in place of a memory table. It was very unique and special to us both.”
To sprinkle in more hispanic culture, the couple placed lotería cards instead of a numbered seating chart.
“It was really fun and our friends enjoyed finding out if they were at the el borracho table or el nopal table.”
Instead of having a guestbook, they had a piñata for guests to write well wishes and predictions in.
“I’m sure there are many baby notes and we can’t wait to pop it open on our anniversary.”
“We did away with most traditons, I had both parents walk me halfway down the aisle and walked the rest of the way alone. We switched spots at the alter. We did away with the big cakes and did two small ones, Mexican wedding cookies and churro bar! We also had my sister and two close friends dress up as the Bad Bunny sharks. It was such a fun night!” – Jalen
The Vendors That Exceeded Expectations
Jalen admits all of their vendors exceeded the couple’s expectations!
“Sydney [with Simply XO] kept the party going and everyone on time. Letty [Herrera] made my minimalist table settings perfect, and even made a quick bouquet for a junior bridesmaid. Ashley from Feast & Merriment delivered on the signature drinks and food. It was served family style, brisket chili relleno and pork tenderloin on a bed of elote. Literally, chefs kiss! Ashley [Medrano] from photography captured everything so well. Nothing felt forced or awkward and I received our pictures so fast! [Glammed by] Kat drove all the way to where we were staying (which was far), and had her team get us all done so fast. I was so nervous about the lashes but she slayed. I didn’t even do a trial with her.” – Jalen
The Happy Bride’s Advice
Jalen urges brides to start early in the wedding planning process. She advises to start with the highest priority, which was locking down the venue and catering for her special day.
She also limited her options when making decisions such as picking venues by visiting five of her favorites and narrowing that list down with her mother in law. She then had her husband choose between three remaining options with her.
“With my dress, I only went to two stores with my mom and sister. Any special dress I tried on that gave me ‘that feeling,’ or if my mom/sister reacted positively, I would close the curtain and sit with the dress for a few minutes to really soak it in and see if I liked it.” – Jalen
