How They Met
Katherine and Jackson met in April of 2016 at a friends birthday party in Austin, Texas. They instantly connected and talked the night away. From there, the two were inseparable and celebrate the day they met as their anniversary.
The Proposal
After years of growing together, Katherine and Jackson moved to San Antonio after their college graduations. Katherine found a job working for San Antonio Weddings, and about a year later on December 24, 2021 Jackson got down on his knee in front of both of their families and asked Katherine to be his wife.
The Planning & Inspiration
Being so deeply rooted in the wedding industry, Katherine had been looking at the best inspiration for over a year when she started planning her wedding. She knew she wanted it to be design centered with an emphasis on guest experiences. The couple decided on La Bonne Vie in Fredericksburg because of their shared love for wine and the venues ability to host over 100 people overnight for a weekend wedding.
The Details
Theme
While there wasn’t a specific theme, Katherine went to Rhea’Lynn, Design Lead of Scarlet Rose Events, with the desire to have a colorful, texture-filled, sensory-satisfying wedding day. “I wanted it to feel whimsical and eclectic, without it feeling too youthful or overwhelming”, said the newly wed.
Choices
They choose a soft spring color palette that was incorporated into all of the details. The custom checkered vinyl dance floor matched the background of the Photo Booth, and the couple put their monogram where they could to keep the branding and design elements flowing throughout the event. Katherine wanted to keep the reception hall feeling light and bright while also respecting the desire for color. White linen on longs offset by teal velvet tablecloths on rounds set the tone for the evening, while the colored glassware and candles kept the color involved where it could be.
Unique Elements
Guestbook
While the couple provided a normal guestbook for people to write in, they also loved incorporating the voicemail guestbook provided by MBP Photo Booth. Katherine has voice mails saved from ten years ago, so the couple knew this would be a special way to keep memories from the guests at the wedding.
Live Artist
This couple loves caricature art because of how fun it is to watch an artist intemperate your aesthetic in such a unique way. They were so glad they brought in Jared from Caricatures Classico to offer their wedding guests a special keepsake to remember their wedding day with instead of some generic wedding favor.
Musicians
Katherine is a jazz musician, but wanted to bring in something that highlighted the whimsical-eclectic energy she wanted at the event. This is what inspired the decision to bring in string musicians from Terra Vista Strings to play modern music in a Bridgerton-esque way during their cocktail hour.
Bridesmaid Outfits
This is an element of the wedding that people are still talking about. The mismatching jumpsuits and pantsuits in Katherine’s mixed gender bridal party were a show stopping detail. Everyone loved the fact that the bridesmaids were all in pants, and they also loved their rattan floral bags that they carried instead of the typical bouquet. Modern, chic, and oh so fun!
Words of Advice
“No matter how much planning and time goes into your big day, some of the details will not end up turning out the way you expected. Wedding planning has it’s ups and it’s downs, people will let you down, you will be overwhelmed at times, and you may even say why the f*** didn’t we just elope in Vegas? Trust me when I say, it will all be worth it in the end. If you have that desire to have a big hometown wedding, don’t lose hope when all the details seem like too much to take on. You are marrying your best friend, bringing the people you love most together in one place, and celebrating the love you share in one of the most epic ways you can! Soak it up, stay present, and enjoy the ride while it’s here.” – Katherine + Jackson Ayers
