A 10-Year Anniversary

Say “I Do” to Renewing Your Vows

Creating fairy-tales is part of the job description for Bridal Connection’s Boutique Manager, Angelita Sorensen. Like Cinderella’s godmother, she spends her days turning women into princesses as they select the perfect gown for their “happily ever after.” But even fairy godmothers need a little magic from time to time, so when Sorensen and her husband of ten years found themselves struggling, she decided it was time to wave her wand over her own life and say “I Do” all over again.

Sorensen and her husband are not alone. Once the honeymoon is over the real work begins, and between jobs, kids, and the responsibilities of daily life, it can be easy to forget that whole “for better or for worse,” business.

“I strongly encourage people to renew their vows,” says the bubbly brunette. “It’s a way to reconnect with your spouse, share your love with your family and friends, and remember why you fell in love in the first place.”

For Sorensen, who met her future husband via My Space, the vow renewal was also about finally having the wedding of her dreams.

“We had a whirlwind romance because he was about to be deployed,” explains Sorensen, who was working in corporate America at the time. “He didn’t even formally propose, and I had to settle for an ivory bridesmaid’s gown because no shop could order a dress for me in the short amount of time that I had to plan.”

That’s why one of the first things Sorensen did after landing her job at Bridal Connection was to make sure the shop carried a much wider selection of plus sizes, as well as more options for immediate shipping.

“I didn’t want another bride to go through what I went through.”

The couple retied the knot on their 10-year anniversary, at Joske Pavilion in Brackenridge Park. The bride wore the dress of her dreams, a beautiful, floral print organza Italian wedding gown from Nicole Milano, customized with ethereal angel wing sleeves, a corset closure, and a longer train. As an added element of surprise, the bride sewed lights into the skirt of the gown, the bridesmaids’ floral halos, and she even added lights to her bridal bouquet. As the sun went down, the wedding party lit up!

“I’ve always been a little ‘extra,’ so although no one expected it, no one was really shocked either.”

The gown perfectly encapsulated the theme, which Sorensen describes as, “elegant, floral, and fun!” The happy couple was driven to the picturesque venue in a black cherry, 1947 Chevy Convertible. A beautiful ceremony was officiated by Reverend Rene Esparza of Everlasting Elopements.  The setting was the San Antonio River under a sunny, breezy, South Texas sky.

Once the vows were exchanged the fun began! Guests dined on made to order pizza from Gold Stone Pizza, and cake from Lucy’s Cake Shop along with cake pops by Jennifer Scholwinski.  A DJ from Joe Jazz Productions, and finally a Wedding Moon Bounce from Four 40 Entertainment, kept the crowd jumping!

“I’m really just a big kid at heart,” Sorensen laughs, adding that every bride should have fun with her big day.

“This is YOUR day, so do what YOU want,” she advises. “We are all different and unique so let that come out in your wedding planning.”

And yes, in case you were wondering, Sorensen finally got her proposal—and one that was very “sweet” in more ways than one.

“He took me to a candy shop,” she laughs. “He purchased a candy ring pop, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.”
