How did you meet? 

We were two years apart in school, but were both in our high school’s marching band and met through many mutual friends. We really hit it off, and after being thrown together for so many hours a day putting together a marching show, it was inevitable that we would end up together.

Tell us about the proposal 

Spencer had graduated from UTSA in December of 2017 and I’d graduated from UT Austin in May of 2018, and we decided to take a trip to Disney World to celebrate being officially done with school forever. We got there and immediately went to the Animal Kingdom, where he asked someone to “take a picture of us” in front of the Tree of Life. I was completely unaware of what was happening!

What inspired the design or theme of your wedding day? 

We knew that we wanted an outdoor wedding since both of us love just being out in nature. However, being from Texas, we knew that a summer wedding was not the ideal. We decided on a fall date and some colors that we loved (burgundy and blush tones) and let everything else go from there.

Why did you choose the venue and vendors you did? 

Honestly, one of my mom’s friends lives in the neighborhood and told me “Oh you should go look at our clubhouse, people get married there all the time!”. My initial reaction was “Clubhouse? That doesn’t sound fancy and elegant and romantic…” but then I saw some photos from a school friend who had gotten married there and was so impressed. We went for a tour and fell in love with the venue and the staff there. They have a list of preferred vendors who have been tried and true and we used that as a huge push in the right direction for every vendor. I cannot say enough about how amazing our whole team was at making it the best day ever!

Did anything about your wedding exceed your expectations? 

Honestly everything exceeded our expectations. There are so many things that we weren’t able to see before they were actually set up at the wedding (flowers, cake, table settings, etc.) that we were pretty nervous about how it would all come together. We were blown away by how accommodating our vendors were and how well they all worked together to bring a cohesive vision to life.

What advice do you have for couples planning a San Antonio wedding? 

While it’s easy to get caught up in the planning process with everything that needs to happen, nothing is worth too much stress. Just remember that A) everyone is there to celebrate you and your love and they will be happy for you no matter what; and B) no one knows every detail of your wedding to know if something’s not going perfectly so let the little things go. Enjoy your day and the start of your forever together!
