How They Met

On a chilly, December evening in 2016, Clarissa and Derek met at a friend’s birthday gathering at Lake LBJ. Immediately, there were sparks as they laid eyes on each other. Throughout that evening, they sat underneath the stars and talked about their life goals and his love for everything Marvel. They had discussed the following day, their friendship would be a difficult one with Derek’s traveling. Nevertheless, where ever he traveled to, from Denver to Boston, she visited. As time grew on with traveling, they fell more in love with each other and knew they were meant for one another. They knew if their relationship could withstand thousands of miles between them then it could withstand anything else!

The Proposal

Clarissa and Derek had planned a trip to Cancun to celebrate her 30th birthday in January 2020. They had decided to fly in a couple of days before other friend’s so that they could have some alone time. Unknowingly to Clarissa, Derek had wanted to use their alone time in Mexico to propose to her. The first evening in Mexico, he had booked a dinner reservation at one of the hotel resort’s fine dining restaurants to pop the question. After dinner, the waiter brought out a chocolate covered egg for dessert. Clarissa, a chocolate lover, was super excited to devour the egg, but was told she needed to “crack open” the egg to see what was inside. As she did this, she saw a sparkly, ring inside and immediately teared up when she saw Derek get down to one knee. Everyone inside the restaurant applauded as Clarissa nodded yes! And of course, the rest is history!

The Inspiration

Clarissa had always wanted a winter wedding full of white floral and dark greenery. Derek’s favorite color had always been green especially since he was a graduate of UNT Mean Green, while Clarissa had always loved gold. They both agreed to use the color scheme emerald green and gold to make it a winter glam wedding.

With the help of Derek’s aunt, Sabrina Gray , she captured the winter glam essence perfectly with beautiful golden center piece lamps surrounding winter greenery. She added classic white floral and golden pinecones to the bouquets that were effortless perfection. Canyon Springs provided gold chargers and dark green napkins to fit with the theme.

Clarissa had also dreamt of a winter wedding dress with sleeves, inspired by her mother’s wedding dress. She fell in love with a classic A-line wedding dress with gracefully placed appliqués throughout the dress and sleeves that made it a perfect winter wedding dress. The bridesmaids all had emerald green dresses with unique deigns to fit their body type the best, paired with gold masks to match well with the wedding color scheme. The maid of honor, Meagan Esparza, was the most glamorous of all with her floor length gold dress paired with emerald green earrings.

Unique Elements

One of the best unique elements included was Derek’s top hat. The couple’s favorite movie is “The Greatest Showman” and they wanted to include an element from the movie to showcase for wedding guests. He also customized his wedding top hat by adding emerald green ribbon to match and a Tree of Life pin to symbolize the future family they plan to build together.

Their Vendors

Clarissa had completed most of her sacraments at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church and knew fittingly it would be the perfect place to have their wedding ceremony. They wanted a reception that was located close to the church so that guests could travel to it easily. Upon visiting Canyon Springs, they knew it was the one when they saw the gorgeous waterfalls and how helpful the coordinators were with catering and linen. It was also an added bonus that Derek was to receive a free round of golf to play with his fellow groomsmen.

The Photo Booth-Urban Magic Photos really impressed them as well! Ashley, the owner, was extremely helpful the entire process, always checking up on Clarissa and Derek with designs for the photos and for the guest photo album. The use of a mirror to take pictures was so clever in that guests always made sure they looked good right before the photo was taken. The entire night guests raved on how it was the best photo booth they had ever seen. The crew also made sure that each guest of the wedding took a photo and signed the guest book. They went above and beyond with their service. The groom especially was taken aback on how brilliant the photo booth was. The best part of the guest book were the countless pictures they had of their flower girl and ring bearer making silly faces and hilariously using the funny COVID props.

Words of Advice

“It is never too early to start planning after engagement! Luckily, most of our vendors were literally booked 2 weeks after the engagement, just before the COVID quarantine period started. Had we not booked out vendors earlier, it would have been a million times more stressful with planning due to COVID.”
