Estancia Del Norte
Where San Antonio Celebrates
Coming Spring of 2021
San Antonio is a city steeped in culture and heritage—and it loves any occasion to celebrate both! From formal weddings to fun fiestas, residents of the Alamo City know how to throw a party, and now they have a venue that is as special as the occasion. Designed to be “the place where San Antonio celebrates,” the re-imagined Estancia Del Norte marries elegance, tradition, and San Antonio style for an experience that you normally don’t find outside of the Hill Country or River Walk.
Centrally located along the airport corridor on IH 410, Estancia Del Norte (originally La Mansion and formerly the DoubleTree Airport) has its own rich history. Built in 1978, the once “high end” hotel known for its beautiful interior courtyard and colonnade is being restored to its former glory by Charles Leddy, owner of the locally based Presidion Hotels and Resorts. It is the first in what Leddy calls a portfolio of “really special properties.”
“My vision is to create an authentic San Antonio hotel where people come to celebrate,” says Leddy. “The architecture is already there, I just want to finish it out in a form that represents the Hispanic and Texan cultures of San Antonio.”
That includes creating spaces for brides and grooms to relax and enjoy themselves amid the preparations. The Dahlia Lounge for the bridal party features a dressing room and vanities, with beautiful windows that overlook a private courtyard. The groom and his attendants can kick back and relax in the Leddy Ranch room. A nod to his own West Texas heritage, and his grandfather’s (ML Leddy) famous boot and saddle brand, Leddy designed this room with plenty of seating and entertainment including a pool table, bar, and television sets.
The jewel in the crown of the 275-room hotel is the lush, interior courtyard with its tropical foliage, sparkling fountain, and archways resplendent with signature ironwork. The bride can choose from three show stopping ways to make her grand entrance including walking through the promenade of the courtyard, arriving via the exquisite antique iron elevator, or traversing the walkway that cuts directly across the center of the pool.
Of course, no celebration is complete without food, and in keeping with the fusion of historical authenticity and Texas touches so prevalent throughout the property, Leddy partnered with Brian Strange, owner of Don Strange of Texas. The premier Texas caterer will open its first brick and mortar restaurant inside the hotel with a chef-driven menu featuring upscale southwestern cuisine in a fine-dining atmosphere.
“The fine-dining restaurant will be a natural expansion of the Don Strange of Texas brand with the exceptional quality they are known for, along with that Texas hospitality that they do so well,” describes Leddy.
While the Don Strange of Texas restaurant will be open only for dinner, a smaller expo kitchen will provide meals throughout the day in a casual setting, and with plenty of what Leddy refers to as “theater in food.”
“The hotel is all about celebrations and we are bringing the kinds of service levels that are meant to create energy,” he says. “We want you to see the food being prepared and interact with the chefs.”
With exceptional service, dining, and accommodations, Estancia Del Norte is poised and ready to become San Antonio’s premier celebration destination. The opening is set for the Spring of 2021, and the booking window is currently open.
